Young people, Great achievements Part 1 - AGBOR Obed, Chief of Programming, Editor and broadcaster at Hitv.

Agbor Obed and a thousand control buttons

Young people, Great achievements is a section that highlights on the achievements of some illustrious youths who have managed to overcome all barriers against all odds to become leading examples amongst their peers. These youths have been able to exploit their almost extra-terrestrial talents that identify them in domains of arts and culture, media and other social connections.
This week, we will delve into the world of Agbor Obed Agbor, who is the Chief of Programming and the Chief Editor of Hitv. At the age of 25, he has managed to hone his talents as an educated editor. Graduating form the Audio-visual university of Siantou, Yaoundé, he worked for some time as a broadcaster for STV Douala.

In 2010, his love for Anglophone Cameroon saw him packing his baggage to Buea, to join in the growth of the newly born Hitv TV Station (then known as Fakovision Channel). His dedication and unending commitment saw the TV station grow into a widely recognized medium of constructive communication in Anglophone Cameroon.
However, Agbor Obed continues to be humble and God-fearing despite all these accomplishments, as he maintains that he is yet reached his goals in life. As CEO of his production institution, ZUMHOO Studios, he has in sight the emergence of Cameroon as one of the leaders in African entertainment.  It is his dream that one day, Cameroonians will learn to appreciate the role media plays in our society and learn to appreciate those who work toward that realization.

The place of English comedy in Cameroon.

For so long, anyone who has a passion for comedy in Cameroon will
only have to think about something done from Nigeria, in typical
pidgin-English. Rarely one finds an individual who has come across
good quality English comedy even from Nigeria, let alone from
Cameroon.

Consequently, there is that comic apathy from comedians and people to
indulge in or listen to English comedy. Comedians fear they will  not have
the capability of holding their audience for 5
minutes in English and the audience fear the possibility of being
bored to death from bad comedy done in English language.

However, things are starting to change with the advent of English
comedy comedians like Nshom Bali (Bombastic Fool) and Ngwane Hansel
of the Meet Hansel Comedy Show. they have presented themselves in an
alluring manner that makes them stand out amongst other comedians in
English-speaking Cameroon, with their impeccable grasp of the English
language and the meticulous skill of entertaining the crowd for more
than an hour each.

Nevertheless, more needs to be done as more people still remain
skeptical about the future of English comedy in Cameroon and the
comedians still relying on old jokes told in pidgin English, mostly
curled from Nigerian comedians like Basket mouth and the rest. Rest
assured, there is a saying that "whatever you do in a certain
language ends where that language is being understood". English is
universal, and English comedians will soon dominate and rise to the
pinnacle of their comic glory.

This standup comedy show was graced with thrilling musical performances from Slicky and co, Adele, Sparx da Virus, V-dot Chris, Da Breeze and a cameo comedy appearance by The Bombastic Fool (Nshom Nofuru). Though not nominated for best standup comedy routine, this was the show that marked the beginning of English comedy in Cameroon and highlighted the notion that one must not always copy from Nigerians in order to succeed.
